Recently I was busy cleaning up the list of RSS feeds I follow using FreshRSS and I noticed the website http://qgis.tips no longer exists. So I checked if this domain name was available to register and it was. Since I already have a GIS blog where I regularly post about QGIS, I thought it would be cool to have one dedicated to QGIS, so I registered the domain.
Since I had it in my list of RSS feeds about GIS related subjects, I wondered what kind of website it was earlier. The easiest way to find that out is entering the url into https://archive.org. That shows that it was more or less the same thing that I intend it to be, but archive.org only has versions saved from 2015 until early 2017. All content about some cool QGIS hacks that I could find in this older version seem to have been posted to the website between September and November 2014. The site itself appeared to have been made by Gary Sherman of GeoApt LLC himself (the original developer of QGIS) and he also created most of the posts on the website. Other posts were created by timlinux, Martin Dobias, Anita Graser and spatialguru. After early 2017 the original website seem to have disappeared.
Now what do I plan to do with this new website. Well, first I’m going to republish some of the QGIS related things I wrote on my general GIS blog that are still useful in the current version of QGIS. I also intend to write in more detail about the geometry generator examples I earlier published online. And after that I plan to write about small tips and tricks I have for users of QGIS.
But the first article I am going to write will be about my most popular answer on https://gis.stackexchange.com/.
